Founded by Sarah Van Raden, Notary Ceramics came to be when she found her way back to the potter's wheel nearly a decade after taking a semester of ceramics in college. This time, the class she took was held at a local art school and was filled with people from all ages and walks of life. She instantly fell back in love with clay. She loves the way it makes her feel like a child again: carefree and full of possibilities. Sarah bought her own wheel, saved up for a small kiln, emptied out her cluttered basement to make way for a make-shift studio, and eventually opened her current shop and studio space in Portland, Oregon. All of her pieces are handmade and unique, and Notary clays are sourced locally and made in the Pacific Northwest. After nearly a decade working as a photo stylist, she feels she has found her true passion in creating pottery. The imperfection, the wobbles, the wonkiness... it all works to create incredible handmade products that serve as a reminder of the beauty of life and the potter who created every piece.
